Inspiring Travel Writing from Nabeel Shariff

Nabeel loves to write. He also loves to shoot amazing places and people. It's a simple as that. The two together brings an experience visually and emotionally alive and has been the foundations of his work to date. With over 10 years experience in the travel industry Nabeel has transcribed his experiences into published work over the past two years.
With published work for Emel Magazine, Nabeel brings a fresh approach to portraying places in the early stages of his career. At every opportunity the traits between people, food, migration and diaspora are littered in his work. Understanding the people he meets and their past are important to his work.
His role models are Khalid Hoseini for his incredible style and Sonia Katchian for her work with Muhammed Ali over the years.

Remarkable. Modern trimmings, space age aura and the feeling of coherence fills the terminal of Singapore’s Changi Airport as I stepped out into the arrivals hall. Remarkable because within 8 minutes flat of disembarking the aircraft, I had...

I find myself driving along a pitch black single-track road with the hum of the ocean in the far distance, cutting through the reeds of sugar cane on either side. The ensemble of crickets starts to provide some indication of life around me as I pass...

Scorched embers of Holika Dahan the night before lay strewn across the junctions of each neighbourhood, as the swell of purple-stained faces race along deserted streets. The day of the Hindu festival of Holi vacates Udaipur’s narrow alleyways...

Half a decade later she’s still standing. Her ochre blue walls, three neatly arranged tables with locals streaming in and out clutching paper bags, with light grease marks silhouetting hadi kebabs and kitambua. Nestled along a terrace, aged with the...

Middle aged Malay men leaned on their taxis waiting for the next set of passengers to slowly make their way out the doors, whilst relaxing in the still untainted sea air. I paid my driver a modest fifteen Malaysian Ringitt and walked into the Kota...

5.15 a.m., I hear a thud on the front of my cabana, with a slither of sunlight peeping through my batik curtain. Unaware of my surroundings I open the door to be greeted by a wild boar rummaging in the dust a few metres away. All seemed a bit...

Riad Fes | Nabeel ShariffWithin the winding streets of the old Medina, Riad Fes holds a certain charm separate from the characterised chaos outside. For a riad, the property is vast, with three dars combining traditional Moroccan and Andausian styles that provides a...
