Inspiring Travel Writing from Katie Scott

Katie Scott
After never having crossed either ocean, Katie Scott got on a plane from Toronto to London to begin a year of travel. Within a week she became part of the TI team as an editorial assistant eager to learn about the industry. She has since travelled extensively around Europe, and written several hotel reviews for the TI collection. Although Toronto will always be home, she has also lived in Montreal and London – and she hates being pressed to choose a favourite.

    Hotel Roemer | Katie Scott
A sleek, sexy and sophisticated boutique hotel, Amsterdam's Hotel Roemer is a microcosm for the city in which it's set. The sister property to Hotel Vondel opened its doors in 2006, and although younger and smaller, Hotel Roemer proves to be more...
  • The Dominican | Katie Scott
It might be the Gregorian chanting that's pumped through speakers in the elevators, or maybe it's the fact that it was once a 15th-century Dominican abbey, but one thing is for sure - The Dominican is unlike any other luxury hotel in Brussels. Set...
  • Hotel Le Plaza | Katie Scott

Design enthusiasts with kids take note: it's hard to find a better family-friendly option than Amsterdam's Hotel Vondel. That's not to say that this luxurious hotel is overrun with youngsters, but if you happen to be travelling with the kids on...
  • Prestonfield | Katie Scott
Driving up the private road to Prestonfield, I soon realize that this is a place full of surprises. Only a short ride from the heart of Edinburgh, this boutique hotel manages to feel like a secluded country home. The 17th-century manor is set on its...
  • Haymarket Hotel | Katie Scott
Setting foot inside the Haymarket on London's Trafalgar Square is like a visit to the Tate Modern or the MOMA. When the reception tells us to have a seat in the lobby, my first thought is, "On these sofas?", forgetting that the arty furnishings also...
  • Miller's Residence | Katie Scott
THE HOTEL IS CLOSED FOR REFURBISHMENT FROM 19TH JULY UNTIL EARLY 2011 Finding the entrance to Miller's Residence in London is like looking for the mysterious platform for the Hogwart's Express. The street numbers curiously skip over the supposed...
  • York House Hotel | Katie Scott
There's nothing like experiencing Lisbon through the comfort of a luxury boutique hotel, especially when it's as charming and discreet as York House. The façade is so subtle, in fact, that it would be easy to walk right by on Rua das Janelas Verdes...
