Inspiring Travel Writing from Kate Morris

Kate Morris is lucky enough to have been sent to an eco-friendly game reserve in South Africa, on safari in Tanzania, whale watching in Seattle, mud baths in Italy, two weeks in the Yemen, a six star cruise in Alaska, the wildnerness of the Swedish archipelago, and swopping a life in the week of a girl in New York. All she had to do in return was write a few words.
She has published one novel, 'A Single Girl's Diary', which is being adapted for a feature film by Granada Films, completed another, called 'The End Game', is married, and lives in London.

‘'Occasionally hyenas and baboons raid the laundry yard.’ The ‘fact to note’ on the laundry list in Mountain Lodge - a private game reserve in South Africa - makes me laugh out loud. I never did discover how many bras and pairs of knickers have been...

I recently decided, on an impulse, to join a group of friends going to Yemen, barely knowing exactly where it is. It lies between the Red and the Arabian Seas. Hearing about the mud tower houses in the desert, stone dwellings in the mountains and...

When we were young children, my sister and I were packed off to the Isle of Wight for an annual summer holiday. We were sent to stay with an ancient couple, the parents of a nanny. We idled away the days on the windy seafront of Seaview in our navy...

About 30km east of Cork city, overlooking the East Ferry anchorage, is the best bed and breakfast you are ever likely to stay in. Rathcoursey House, a small Georgian manor, is surrounded by dense woods and a long bumpy track leads up to it from the...

As I have never been an ardent admirer of Ikea, Abba, or Seventies porn, Sweden was not on the list of my top twenty travel destinations. How wrong I was to be so blinkered! Since being sent by Harpers and Queen, I am a convert, and already planning...

The temperature is a soothing seventy five degrees in the shady olive grove. Stretching and purring, I roll onto my back, squint at the sun and sigh. The branches rustle gently. I sigh again. What should I do this afternoon? Remain here at the Grand...

Day OneOn the day of my departure for New York the London sky is as low and grey as I am. I call the New York paparazzo, Patrick McMullen, who works with my alter ego, the mysterious Ariel, on ‘New York’ magazine. Apparently he will take me to the...
