Inspiring Travel Writing from Julie Miller

Julie Miller is an Australian freelance writer and television producer who has managed to scrape a living doing the things she loves best -travelling, writing, riding horses and driving fast cars. In between (and to pay the bills), she produces and directs reality television programs and writes comedy scripts. She has been widely published in travel magazines and newspapers throughout Australia, and is a regular contributor to Vacations & Travel Magazine. She is also the author of Great Horse Treks of the World, featuring 21 of the world's most exciting and scenic horse-riding destinations. She is currently writing a fictional work about two overwhelming female obsessions - horses and men.

I‘m alone on a beach on the Upper Ganga in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, dining by lamplight on sublime vegetable curry and freshly cooked chapattis. 30 kilometres downstream, the towns of Rishikesh and Hardwar are bursting at...

It was one of those spellbinding moments, when time is suspended and hearts momentarily stop before pounding triple-time with adrenaline. Deep in the heart of the Kosciuszko wilderness, a magnificent grey brumby stallion emerged from a eucalyptus...

The first rays of sunlight filter through autumn leaves, russet and gold, impaling the early morning mist. Alongside the smooth gravel road, an ancient wooden waterwheel turns methodically, an effective watering system taming the boulder-strewn...

I was tired, overworked and stressed – and in desperate need of a holiday. There was a five day window of opportunity before the work onslaught would recommence, so time was precious. I wanted tropical – palm trees, warm water,...
