Inspiring Travel Writing from Greg Breining

Greg Breining writes about travel, sports, outdoor recreation and the environment. As an author and magazine writer, he has searched for rare rhinos in Indonesia, paddled the mountain rivers of Jamaica, reported on the little-known sport of bandy in Siberia, and traveled around Lake Superior in his sea kayak.
Breining's latest book is Wild Shore, an account of paddling around the world's largest lake as he explores the meaning of Lake Superior to the historic Ojibwa and the others who live around the lake today. Others books include Minnesota, a book in the Compass American Guide series; and Return of the Eagle, the story of how America saved its national symbol.
His journalism, essays and articles have appeared in Sports Illustrated, Audubon, Islands, National and International Wildlife, Minnesota Monthly, the Dallas Morning News, the Globe and Mail and other publications.
In addition to writing, Breining is managing editor of the Minnesota Conservation Volunteer, magazine of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. He lives in St Paul, Minnesota.

Lake Superior
Ahead, in the afternoon haze, the horizon had disappeared and the Agawa Islands seemed to float in the sky. The scene was glorious in its surrealism. And then we saw it.Agawa Rock. The sheer, broad cliff reminded me of a drive-in movie screen, but...
