Inspiring Travel Writing from Francisca Kellett

Francisca Kellett is a travel journalist and photographer born to three nationalities - no good start to warding off itchy feet. Born in San Francisco, she grew up in Germany and London, but these days prefers travelling to more exotic climes. Her work has taken her from Brazil to Barcelona and from Hamburg to Harare - but she swears that nowhere beats Cape Town. She is the author of the Footprint to Cape Town, and co-author of the Footprint to South Africa.
She has also contributed to a number of other guidebooks, including for Rough Guides, the AA and Fodors. Her articles have appeared in The Daily Telegraph, The Independent on Sunday, The Guardian and The Daily Mail, as well as a number of magazines including Wanderlust and ABTA Travelspirit. She has also had her travel photography published in several guidebooks and magazines. When not travelling, Francisca lives in London thinking up new excuses to go away.

The Costa Brava suffers from something of a split personality. It is still best known for the big, bland resorts of Estartit and Lloret de Mar, as well as the much prettier Tossa de Mar, which were among the first in Europe to be developed for mass...

The small town of Bidart seems to have only recently opened its arms to tourism - there are few hotels or restaurants and the shore is mostly undeveloped. The narrow streets of half-timbered houses wind down towards a series of rocky coves,...

It’s 6 pm on a November Monday and I should be worrying about my tax return. Instead, I’m lounging in a scuffed leather armchair with a G & T in hand, eyes drifting out over a grassy valley, the colours fading into darkness as the sun sets. I’...
