David's travel journalism has appeared in all the National papers in the UK, and magazines as diverse as Country Life, Country Living, GQ and Time Out. He is also a well known young adult novelist, here and in America, and his books, especially his talking animal fantasies, often deal with the themes of nature and environmentalism that he weaves into his travel writing. Andalucia
November 2000: I’m failing to penetrate into the dark interior of Andalucian cooking - to bring back, like a portly Conquistador, the culinary wealth of Granada, Seville and Jerez. I’d meant to sweep down off my hilltop into Malaga, to the liveliest...

November 2000: Yesterday we nearly dared to eat a peach; to steal one from a sudden glorious cluster, bulging from a tree in the middle of the Alhambra palace. In Seville and Cordoba, and any number of town squares across Southern Spain, autumn’s...

It was trying to get my shopping bags back from the supermarket, along the darker reaches of the North End Road, that finally clinched it. A more Antipodean type may have whooped manfully and gone surfing on the great, looping waves of wet, scooped...

It glinted in the Cappadocian moonlight; the last symbol in an impossibly symbolic landscape. Perched on top of the ancient rock cone in Goreme village like a metallic pigeon was their very own disco ball. Cappadocia’s famous ‘fairy-chimneys’ loomed...

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)
We'd had our fill of the war. We'd seen the appalling photos of American atrocities in Saigon's Military museum and crawled around a tiny section of the Cu Chi tunnels, the warren which was used by Viet Cong guerillas for twenty years and runs for...
