Writers bio:
John Borthwick is one of Australia's leading travel writers. When he's not there (which is often), writer/photographer John calls Sydney home.
He is the author of hundreds of travel articles (most illustrated by his own photographs) and numerous books, including two collections of his travel essays, Chasing Gauguin's Ghost (2002) and The Circumference of the Knowable World (1995), plus an anthology of train stories, Off the Rails and an edited collection of the late Peter Pinney's travel writings, The Road to Anywhere.
Among his principal outlets are newspapers The Australian, the Sunday Herald-Sun (Melbourne), the Sun-Herald (Sydney) and numerous colour magazines such as Qantas Australian Way, Luxury Travel and Holidays for Couples.
He has received numerous awards for his writing, including the Australian Society of Travel Writers award of "Travel Journalist of the Year" on several occasions. John holds a PhD in travel literature. His constant travelling has taken him to many odd and a few even parts of the world.
One of his favourite destinations is the Kingdom of Thailand. His work was recently acknowledged by a prestigious 'Friend of Thailand' award given by the government of Thailand.
