Barbara Erasmus

Writers bio:
Barbara Erasmus is a freelance journalist and author who lives in Cape Town and writes for publications such as Mail&Guardian, Men’s Health, Business Day, Sunday Times, Equinox, Teacher and Cape Times, winning the GlaxoSmithKline Media Excellence Award in 2001. She has written features for the travel supplements of the Saturday Star, Cape Argus, Sunday Tribune, Travel Now, Diversions and Alive describing trips to Russia, Alaska, Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Europe, North America and Africa. Her short story Blog won the South African Woman&Home short story competition in 2007.

Her novels Kaleidoscope and Even with insects were published by Penguin (South Africa) in 2004 and 2005 and both were selected as part of Exclusive Books annual Homebru promotion, the leading book store in South Africa which makes an annual selection of the best local fiction available Kaleidoscope was nominated by Penguin for the Commonwealth Best First Novel award and long listed for the Sunday Times Fiction Award, the leading award for fiction in South Africa. Her third novel, Chameleon, has not yet been published. While none of these novels are travelogues, her life-long addiction to far-away places ensures that travel plays a role in each, based on personal experience.
