Villa Dubrovnik by The TI Review Team
This private hotel is perennially popular and consistently finds itself on “world’s best” lists. It’s not surprising. Completely relaxed and unfussy, it is in a fantastic location, with magnificent view of the Old Town and the island of Lokrum opposite. Breakfast terraces don’t come any better. All rooms have balconies and sea views, and before breakfast you can slip a hotel-supplied towelling dressing gown over your costume and stroll through the terrace gardens down to the rocky shore where there is a cordoned-off swimming area and squeaky clean water. Only the clank of cruise ship anchors chains disturb the early morning. It is a 15-minute walk to the Old Town. The hotel’s regular launch to the Old Port adds a Henry James touch. Part of the hotel’s appeal has always been its slightly old-fashioned air. There are plans to add facilities including an indoor pool, to raise it from 3- to 5-star status in 2006, but the owners promise not to destroy the small-hotel ambience that has been part of its success.
