Tussitiri - the Sea Gypsy by Will Jones

Tussitiriis a very exciting and most unusual 50 foot traditional dhow that has been converted for private charter. The owner has spent a considerable amount on the renovation and upgrading of this traditional dhow, which now allows the exploration of the Kenya Coast by boat. The range of activities offered by Tussitiri means that this a holiday for the active family although lying on deck, reading a book under sail, is also a very pleasant alternative.

Guests sleep on deck under the stars or under the rear canopy. There is also a double cabin for those that prefer to sleep enclosed.

The lower decks are kitted out with all the latest scuba and fishing equipment and a small outboard dingy is carried to the rear. Recent guests report that the food served on board was probably the best all safari.

As the boat is booked exclusively the more there are of you the cheaper the boat gets. It is very expensive to privately charter if there are only two of you and is therefore better designed for families or groups. Children under seven are also not allowed on-board which is another limiting factor for those considering a family holiday or are anxious about the safety of small children n boats.

The dhow, harbored in Lamu, is fully staffed and is best chartered between the months of October and March when the kaskazi monsoon brings warmer winds, clearer water, better fishing and diving.
