Taanilinna by Chloe Loyd

Aptly appropriating Tallinn’s former medieval name, the Taanilinna is a tiny boutique hotel tucked away in an old-fashioned building in the heart of Old Town. Rooms are simple with quaint retro touches. Natural wooden floors and furniture give a rustic feel and the odd design feature adds an elegant slant. The two deluxe rooms are spacious with wonderfully romantic views of the medieval centre. Bathrooms are big with bath tubs. Other rooms are smaller and only have showers but do have a timeless charm. For those watching their pennies, the rooms up in the alcoves are a good bet. The cosy dining room is stuffed full of memorabilia, all the wall space taken up by photos. Hours could be happily whiled away over yet another drink in the quirky bar downstairs or, in summer, on the large terrace overlooking the picturesque old town. A room can be sectioned off for private dining or conference facilities. With only 20 rooms, an intimate and very friendly family feel pervades the atmosphere of this Tallinn treasure. A true home from home.
