Seven Bridges by Joanna Monkhouse

Seven Bridges is outstandingly popular and always booked up months in advance. The owners will not take short bookings more than a month ahead, and they do not have internet or email, believing it would ruin the atmosphere.

The nine rooms are furnished uniquely with eclectic furniture in various styles (Art Deco, Biedemeyer, Louis XVI, Rococo), prints and posters on the walls and antique leather chairs. However, the vibrant patterns on the beds, curtains and rugs (all different) can be rather overwhelming. The rooms are spacious, as are the bathrooms (with hand-painted tiles) – a good thing as there are no public areas at the Seven Bridges, so the continental breakfast is served in the room. Three rooms overlook the canal, but the quietest three overlook the back garden. The staff are helpful and attentive.
