Seehof Arabella Sheraton by Christoph Hargreaves-Allen

On the first corner as you enter town, this is an unashamedly international luxury hotel. You could be anywhere, yet the palatial style is quintessentially Davos. Walk in through the permanently revolving door and marvel at the outlandish chandelier, the biggest you will see this side of Oman. An ornate, gilded lobby contains photographs of the world's players, all of whom have stayed here for the World Economic Forum: Nelson Mandela, Bill Gates, Hilary Clinton, Rupert Murdoch, George Soros and many more power-brokers. There is an over-abundance of staff, amenities and restaurants. If in doubt, you can assume the Seehof will have whatever you need.

The edifice of the hotel retains some belle époque glamour, but once inside you will see that the Sheraton Group have taken over, and they run the hotel much as they run their others. No bad thing for a hotel of this size, but if it's country charm you're after, you've come to the wrong place. Rest assured that the rooms are comfortable enough for presidents and the service smooth enough for kings. The hotel is, however, in the best position for skiing: very close to the main cable car.
