Scalatinella by Jamie Dunford Wood

This highly exclusive Capri hotel is in the midst of quite a few others, so is not quite so well located as, say, the Luna. They also make a point of not producing a brochure – ‘we’re not that sort of hotel’. The sort of hotel it is then, is one which offers discreet accommodation of generous proportions, well screened from their less exclusive neighbours, and in a way that allows you to limit your contact with fellow guests if you want total privacy. Most of the thirty rooms of the Scalatinella are styled as junior suites, and three have an enormous shared terrace for sunbathing, while the four deluxe rooms are the same size but with no views. Bathrooms are large, some rooms even have two. Décor is slightly frou-frou, though not ornate. Public space is limited, service is snooty, and they have a small but delightful pool.
