Small traditional 14th century townhouse hotel right on the main square of this delightful town, overlooking the spectacular Cathedral. Simple facilities, but full of charm and tradition, and it’s avoided the excesses of 70s and 80s modernization that has blighted, and continues to blight, so many old German hotels. Beds are big and boat-like. The décor is simple but clean, with patterned curtains or wall paper, and dark wood mahogany furnishings. The windows have pretty window baskets. Downstairs the quaint dining room s wood paneled with an ancient stove, though breakfast can be taken out on the square in summer. Best rooms are on the 2nd floor – 53 has two windows and looks directly onto the square. But be ready for the bells in the morning.
