Mercury Resort & Spa by Hal Peat

Situated at a less traffic-congested end of Collins Avenue, this boutique-sized 42 room property emphasizes privacy. Still, there is plenty of room to socialize whether in your suite, by the pool or at the indoor/outdoor restaurant. Outdoors is an architectural emphasis here, with plenty of terrazzo seating at the downstairs restaurants, a small but inviting ground floor outdoor pool and jacuzzi nestled between the hotel’s two buildings. Also, penthouse suites have their own private terraces, while plenty of natural light is allowed in through generous window spacing in throughout both public and guest areas.

The rooms
You could be in a svelte little service flat in Milan or Paris, the décor and layout of the Mercury’s suites is so efficient and luxurious. Suites feature a small dining area where you can just as easily do some work while on the road, a kitchen area (well-stocked with plates, appliances) to the other side as you enter and a comfortable lounge and entertainment area. The living area is separated by glass and wood partitions and glass sliding doors from the bedroom area, and there is a his-and-hers double bathroom layout complete with marble bath and whirlpool/jacuzzi.

In keeping with the décor, the color palette keeps to a minimalist range of light wood hues, blacks, pale browns and cream tones. There is also high speed internet access and a fax machine (all accessible at an extra fee). Functional yet contemporary stylish, these suite hideaways are ideal either for the leisure or business traveller or anyone with a need to do a little of both while visiting.
