Mara Camp by Will Jones

The Mara Camp is run and operated by Cheli and Peacock which run a fine portfolio of camps and lodges around Kenya. The Mara Camp is composed of only six double tents tucked into a small forest overlooking the northern plains of the Maasai Mara. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with hot water provided in canvas shower bags. The tents themselves are very tastefully furnished and the kitchens produce some of the finest pastas and salads in Kenya.

Game drives are conducted in 4x4 vehicles and walks guided by local Maasai. Night game drives are also possible around the park borders. Walking is excellent.

Why go: For the annual Wildebeest migration – best in July/ August / September - the unfenced Masai Mara covers 1 500km² and, together with the neighboring Serengeti (combined, they form one ecosystem), is home to the greatest concentration of large mammals on earth. The great migration of over two million wildebeest and other grazing ungulates every year is the Mara's foremost attraction and one of the greatest spectacles in the animal kingdom.
