Long Island Resort and Spa by Terry Blackburn

A former setting of trash TV show Temptation Island, Long Island thankfully manages to be everything the programme wasn’t: classy, good looking and occasionally full of genuine celebrities. The owners’ connections with the media world are certainly the principle reason in attracting the hi-so Asian and European clientele, but the Resort is also charming and unpretentious enough to have a lot to offer ‘ordinary’ people as well. The rooms are all decorated in Mediterranean hues and have lots of nice decorative touches – the ones to book are the superior beachside bungalows, which as well as stunning views, boast full stereo sound systems and DVD players.

There’s also a reasonably priced spa and a superior selection of Thai and International cuisine, smoothies and Dick Bradsell-created cocktails available at the restaurant. The one downside is that the beach isn’t all that great – it’s clean enough, but when the tide’s out it is very shallow and rocky. Still, the reasonable sized pool should satisfy most swimmers’ needs.
