Locanda Novecento by Jamie Dunford Wood

This younger sibling of the Hotel Flora, the Locanda Novecento three bridges away just the other side of the Gritti, is run by the junior branch of the Romanelli family, of a generation more in tune with the hip-hotel culture and unashamedly eclectic. The result is partially successful. They have imported fabrics from Pakistan, beds from Thailand, and objets from Morocco, used bare plaster walls, and spent money on the bathrooms (though only one has a tub). They’ve also preserved ancient Venetian beams and a small and cosy garden courtyard. With just nine rooms, and a spacious first floor central lounge, it is perfect for booking en masse. The Riyad atmosphere may feel slightly at odds at first, but the Locanda Novecento has style and a quiet relaxed air that will be valued by many.
