Li Licci by Kamin Mohammadi

Charming agriturismo set deep in the unspoilt Gallura countryside, near the Costa Smeralda. After a winding drive inland and up into the hills and with its wonderful peaceful setting under a canopy of oak and cork trees, it’s a real escape from the hustle and heat of the coast. Dogs bound up to greet you and Jane, the British owner, is charm itself, with many stories and tips from living here for the last 30 years.

As required by the lable agriturismo, Li Licci is an active farm which keeps sheep, goats and pigs and produces cork and honey. This means that their amazing gourmet restaurant mentioned by the Michelin Guide uses all local or own produce. Their famous roasted suckling pig is one of the main dishes to try, but if you feel brave try the set menu di degustazione: with its endless courses and generous portions it defeats any stomach size.

If resting and eating gets too much they can also organise a whole host of activities for you ranging from trekking the second highest mountain of Sardinia on horseback to cheese-making demonstrations not to mention the most obvious boat trips to the islands. Or just a 15-minute drive away you can gape at the amazing 3,000-year old olive trees. If you want to just be quiet, walking round the grounds or sitting in the swing suspended from the trees is very peaceful.

The rooms
There are only four rooms, all comfortable but basic, and as they are often booked out you have to be sure to book well ahead. People come here for the food and the setting so don’t expect amazing things from the accommodation, which is functional. But those staying here don’t mind, the charming service, the deeply tranquil setting and the gourmet dining make Li Licci every bit as special as you could want.
