The Landmark by Daniel Scott

This is another London hotel that recalls the Empire and it is a little off the beaten track, adjacent to Marylebone Station. But its history – it was opened in 1899 as the last of Britain’s great railway hotels – is part of its charm, with stained-glass windows incorporating original station crests. It’s most striking feature is the light-filled eight storey atrium, where tall palm trees reach up to a huge glass skylight above. The Landmark’s 299 high-ceilinged guest rooms are also airy and spacious, with the odd-numbered ones overlooking the atrium. The only disappointment is the on-site restaurant, where the quality of the haute-cuisine cannot justify the pomposity of the service.
