Lancaster Court Mayfair by Joanna Monkhouse

Lancaster Court Mayfair is tucked down a small, quiet street, close to Oxford Street and Park Lane. Favoured by royalty, film stars and musicians‘(though more frequently by business travellers), each of the 11 one- and two-bedroom serviced apartments contains a sitting room, a kitchen and dining table and a bathroom.

Lancaster Court Mayfair is ideal for those looking for a short-term pied-a-terre, with more facilities than the average hotel room will offer but with additional services that rental flats cannot provide. The rates for the apartments reflect their size and the range of amenities provided, but the furnishings do not have the finishing touches that might be expected in a hotel of comparable rates.

The fitted kitchens come equipped with granite work tops, oven, hob, microwave, fridge, washer/dryer and minimal kitchen equipment. Bathrooms are spacious and marble-tiled, and whilst lacking a more luxurious finish - mirrors are plain, the basins are stand-alone - the showers are powerful and the baths deep. Every suite has a different layout and the bedrooms are individually decorated, but they too want for a higher level of comfort. Some have four poster beds. Stereo, satellite TV and a video recorder are provided in the sitting rooms, with comfortable sofas (that turn into a bed for an extra guest), and a desk, along with two phone lines (with voice mail) and a modem point. Fax machines are available on request.

On the service end, the friendly staff are welcoming and efficient and all needs can be met - grocery shopping, secretarial services, baby sitting, chauffeur-driven car, and daily maid service at a time convenient for the guest. Guests have complimentary use of the health club at the nearby Grosvenor House hotel which has a 20 metre swimming pool, sauna, solarium and gym.
