Hotel Relais Saint Sulpice by Jamie Dunford Wood

The Relais Saint Sulpice stands right behind the neighbourhood St. Sulpice church on the left bank. The area is now one of the chic-est in Paris, full of small designer boutiques and artisan-style stores. First impressions are encouraging - a compact but pretty reception area with an ivy-covered, small courtyard garden at the back, with an eclectic mix of objets and furnishings, many with an Asian theme. The Relais Saint Sulpice has a townhouse feel, quiet and relaxed.

The rooms
The Relais Saint Sulpice has 26 rooms. Most are gathered around the internal courtyard garden, but eight rooms overlook the church - room 11 being amongst the most spacious. The deluxes are best: larger, light rooms with two windows. Some of the standards, as elsewhere in St Germain, can be small and cramped. Walls are covered in pretty provencal fabrics, and beds are in ironwork. Bathrooms have been renovated. This is a good, reasonably priced three-star in a great area for those seeking the romantic face of Paris.
