El Convento is a cheap and friendly small hotel in Arcos, with eleven rooms. Just behind the Parador, the hotel has good views out over the Guadelete plain, which can be enjoyed from the roof terrace, and the building is part of a 17th century convent. Recently renovated, the guestrooms are small and old-fashioned in their traditional décor, although all have air conditioning and tv. Each is dedicated to a local honorary or esteemed staff member, a plaque marking the doors on the otherwise plain corridors. The bathrooms are unremarkable and functional, and some rooms have uninviting terraces which overlook one another. The entrance patio/breakfast room is dark with red floor tiles, columns and dark wooden beams. There is also a restaurant in a nearby 17th century palace, specialising in regional cooking including the intriguing sounding dish ‘Cream of Angels’.
