Hotel De La Poste by Christoph Hargreaves-Allen

Right in the middle of town, this venerable hotel has a good reputation, reinforced by a watchful concierge. It also has a truly charming interior. The day parlour is in its original form and is authentically Alpine, with a cross-hatched wooden ceiling and smooth wooden walls, and an old grandfather clock in the corner. There is a lot of taste and restraint: the only excess is the creaky age of much of the interior. The Poste has a lot charm without the strange mixture of new and old one sees in other hotels and it prides itself on its discreetness, despite its good location.

A sun terrace and lounge with 70s armchairs provide ample opportunity for relaxing outside. Indoors, the bedrooms are very cosy. A drink in the bar is like going back a century or more: in fact the hotel was established as an inn for mail coaches in 1835 and has been run by the same family since that time. It is small, however, so that you might find it claustrophobic - not recommended for families.
