Hotel Ambassador by Jamie Dunford Wood

Century old hotel on the Karntnerstrasse and backing onto the Habsburg crypt, the Ambassador is a medium sized (86 rooms) but well run hotel with no pretensions. The recently renovated guest rooms are large with stucco-ed ceilings, parquet floors, swagged curtains and dark wood furnishings, with double doors in the Austrian fashion, while the restaurant is one of the finest in Vienna, the signature flagship of Austrian chef Toni Morwald. The hall is grand, full of marble, porphery and chandeliers. There is no spa or many other amenities, and the bathrooms are small, but for a well run and luxurious hotel of pedigree in a perfect position (ask for the quieter rooms overlooking the crypt), it should be considered.
