Hostal Villaverde by Jenny Pidgeon

The Villaverde is a very friendly budget option in Deià. Run by an ex-fisherman (he proudly displays an old sea-faring photograph above the fireplace in the sitting room), the hostal has white walls and beamed ceilings. The small sitting room is crammed with paintings, artefacts, overstuffed chairs and even a piano. There is also a dark dining room on the ground floor, but breakfast is normally served outside on the terrace – simply furnished with green plastic chairs and commanding a fantastic view out over the valley, attractively covered with vines for shady afternoons. The ten rooms are small and simply decorated, but clean and all with private bathroom. Two have a terrace, as do the apartments in the adjacent building which are good for longer stays, with a kitchen and sitting room for self-catering. For guests of the hostal itself, a simple breakfast is included in the very reasonable room rate.
