Grand Hotel Fasano by Joanna Monkhouse

Once the hunting lodge of a branch of the Austrian royalty, the current décor of the Grand Hotel Fasano seems to have been inspired by that era, together with some questionable colour choices and a vast number of religious effigies.

The main building is next to the busy lakeside road so rooms on the waterfront are infinitely preferable. The pool and restaurant also benefit from the views across the lake.

It seems that the vast majority of guests are German - news about the weather in Germany is pinned up on the notice board daily, so that guests can gloat if it's raining back home.

Bargain rates would be the only reason to stay here, unless you have a deep interest in the German weather fronts.
