Gallery Hotel by Kevin Kalhoefer

Situated just down the block from the Natural History Museum, the Gallery Hotel is nearly as grand as the Museum itself, if only judging by its décor. Guests are first assaulted by the reception room furnishings: soft, accommodating couches and chairs fill the room and elegant red carpets sprawl across the floor under three elaborate chandeliers. Brass wood fixtures are everywhere, and numerous, large framed portraits align the walls. The reception desk doesn’t really look like a one, but rather like the Donalds desk from “The Apprentice” .

The hotel’s service is straightforward and professional with bellboys dressed up in suit pants and tuxedo vests. The rooms are generously sized and lavishly decorated. In one of the rooms I saw, large curtains with bright floral patters garnish the lofty windows facing out to the French Institute across the street, and similar curtains are occasionally used to drape the beds. The hotel is well suited for those doing business; polished wood desks and a drying board for suits and coats are provided. Additional amenities include a tea and coffee machine, hair dryer, safe in the wardrobe, satellite television, heater and air conditioner, and 24 hour room service. The bathrooms come with bathtubs with showers and gold faucets. The hotel’s two master suites come with Jacuzzis and roof terraces. For breakfast, guests can visit the kitchen or have an in-room Continental or English breakfast.
