Design Suites by Caroline Major

Hugging the corner of this little low rise corner of Buenos Aires, Design Suites looks over a popular garden plaza, perfect for people-watching. The hotel is housed in two twelve story towers, one on the street front, another twenty-five metres behind. The space between the towers is crowned with a glass roof, covering a bar, restaurant and pool. Set into a polished concrete floor, the space is minimal and not very warm. Surprisingly, however, the people lounging here are not the hipsters one might expect.

The suites are roomy and full of natural light, most with an outside wall made of glass. Wooden floors and white walls are standard throughout, carrying on the minimalist theme. There are walk-in wardrobes, Jacuzzi baths, two televisions (one of which is in the bathroom) and a computer workstation with internet connection. Each suite has a kitchenette, with a microwave and an espresso machine, plus crockery and cutlery. Combine that with the table which seats four, and the suite becomes a great option for a few days’ stay.

However, the hotel is looking a little rundown, with the white walls and floors showing signs of wear and tear. The current state of the Argentinean economy may excuse this, with businesses cutting costs to stay alive.

Design Suites is value for money on longer stays in the South American capital, and is especially practical for those travelling with small children.
