Crane Beach - Love Beach by James Henderson

The Caribbean has always been a place for lovers. Take a little time to yourselves, to re-ignite the flame stifled by the demands of daily life, and to find the perfect beach for two.

In Barbados avoid the calm and sedateness of the west coast, where the crowds (bejewelled even on the beach), hob-nob with Michael Winner. Instead take off, just the two of you, and explore the quieter corners of the south east, where wilder beaches are carved into the cliffs.

Eventually you will be drawn to Crane Beach, where the island’s oldest hotel stands stark white on the cliff-top, classical columns and balustrades etched on the rich aquamarine of the Atlantic. It is simply the most dramatic setting in the Caribbean.

Descend, the hundred steps cut into the cliff-face, to the stretch of blinding white sand where the waves are whipped up by wind and restless ocean rhythms. And walk in the hissing breakers, through meandering fingers of froth, toes playing in the sumptuous sand.

Crane Beach sees a few crowds at the height of the season, who come for the wild setting and boogie-boarding. But late in the day they disappear and you will be left alone, the two of you, to enjoy one another. Above, as the sun sets on the west coast, a rose-tinted glow will rise reflected on the clouds.
