Ca La Somara by Kamin Mohammadi

This farmhouse hotel (agriturismo) has unique rural charm just 15 minutes from the very different delights of the flashy Costa Smerelda. Alberto and Laura moved here form the city and have converted this old stable to a perfect spot for relaxation, deep in nature and with a pervading feeling of harmony.

Throughout, the main building and the outhouses have been decorated with a faultless eye, the eclectic collection of objects decorating the main areas and the rooms gathered on the couple’s extensive travels around the world. The main house has a charming area for breakfast and lounging, with deep comfy sofas, a wide fireplace and big farmhouse kitchen and the personal touch is evident throughout.

The grounds are extensive and tranquil, with a relaxation area set under a canopy with hammocks and slouchy seating for serious recharging of batteries, and, dominating the grounds, is the pool. In paddocks below the main grounds, you can find the donkeys that give Ca La Somara its symbol.

Set under another canopy in the grounds is a long table for dining. The agriturismo only offers dinner to guests and there is no menu as such, at breakfast you can discuss the evening’s meal, which is communal, so you get to mix with all the other guests, making for a very friendly atmosphere. The food is all organic and locally produced and very good, cooked in traditional ways and local liqueurs all the colours of the rainbow liberally distributed after dinner.

There is yoga and massage on offer most days through the season and there are plans to build a more permanent home for these activities. All in all, it is hard to beat the mixture of relaxed style, sophisticated sensibility and rural setting of this friendly agriturismo.

The rooms
The 12 rooms are totally individual in both shape and decor, though each has similar attention to details preserving the original character of the farm: the rough plastering, the rounded cubby holes set in the walls, beamed ceilings, terracotta tiles and white walls keeping the rooms light and uncluttered. There are hammocks slung outside some of the rooms in the outhouses and some share a kitchen – perfect for those wanting extra privacy.
