Au Sanglier Qui Fume by Joanna Monkhouse

This French-run auberge on the road from Marrakech to the Tizi’n’test pass has a relaxed family atmosphere, with a large swimming pool and a garden with sun loungers. Although the restaurant once had a Michelin star, the French food was not impressive, overcooked and greasy. Meals are served on the outdoor terrace in summer and in a rather sombre dining room in winter. The rooms are spacious yet comfortable, decorated with earthy colours, with ensuite bathrooms, fireplaces and minibars. Some have small private terraces and mountain views. The noise of trucks rumbling past on the road can be disturbing. Dogs are welcome, and there are several dogs and cats that live at the auberge and have a free run. Overall, the auberge is looking slightly tired.
