Santorini is Greece's most romantic island thanks to its spectacular views of an extinct volcanic crater. The villages of Oia and Firostefani that cling to the volcano's rim or 'caldera' were abandoned after an earthquake in the Fifties and many of the traditional Cycladic cave-houses have since been converted into luxury and boutique hotels.
