Hotel Overview
Review of 60 Thompson, by Alison Tyler
Discreet boutique hotel 60 Thompson is located on one of SoHo's quieter western-edge streets. This is a beautiful hotel for beautiful people (even the staff are gorgeous). Owned by ex-lawyer and art collector Jason Pomeranc, 60 Thompson was the first of his burgeoning boutique hotel collection, which now comprises four New York hotels, with a fifth under construction in Tribeca. It is still the most discerning and the least "try-hard" of his luxe hotels which is popular with media types and fashion PRs as nothing about this boutique hotel is predictable. It's also an essay in calm, understated cool which is spot-on and service is intuitively efficient.
The facilities
The boutique hotel's incredible concierge can get you past the velvet rope at the most impenetrable of Manhattan must-do nightspots. You'll also find New Yorkers and glamorous out-of-towners schmoozing over cocktails on the fantastically SATC/Gossip Girl-esque members-only roof-top bar, while deals are thrashed out between Thai sharing plates in the flattering twilight of Kittichai, the hotel's outstanding, scene-y restaurant.
The rooms
60 Thompson's 100 rooms match the Zen-like ambience of the rest of the boutique hotel. They feature Asian-influenced touches, such as sliding wooden dividing doors, sleek wooden floors, lemongrass, and soft grey walls and furnishings.
Bathrooms are decked out in dark marble and Fresh bath and body products which are an inspired and unusual choice for a boutique hotel, as are the complimentary welcome sake and wasabi peas.

Reviews
Review of 60 Thompson, by Josie van der Schaaf
60 Thompson is one of our New York favourites. The luxury hotel is beautifully designed in a calm, Asian-fusion style. It attracts a glamorous clientele to stay and an uber-hip NY socialite crowd to the bar and restaurant. Despite this rather intimidating reputation, it still manages to feel very inviting. It's also nicely located on a pretty street (by NY standards, anyway), surrounded by chic boutiques and restaurants.
The facilities
The luxury hotel restaurant, Kittichai, is downstairs, giving the rest of the place a more private feel. Kittichai is stylish and welcoming, with candles floating in a pool, swathes of Thai silk, a few streetside tables and a hint of Feng Shui in the air. (Lucky coins are taped under many of the tables). There's a downstairs bar, too, though the real action happens in Thom, upstairs, where people gather in little private seating areas. And only 60 Thompson guests and the hippest of the hip get to go upstairs to A60 (above 60, geddit), the rooftop terrace, open in summer months only.
The rooms
The 100 rooms at 60 Thompson are larger than average for New York. They echo the calm style of the luxury hotel, quite plain, with lots of luscious dark woods and full-wall suede headboards. There are retro-classic touches in the woodblock bedside lamps and the furniture in the suites. The suites also come with desks big enough to actually work at.
The duplex penthouse loft in 60 Thompson is gorgeous, with its own private garden terrace. Details are excellent throughout: good linens, Dean & Deluca goodies to eat, brownies at turndown. Bathrooms have marble mosaics, spacious shower stalls and products by Fresh.
