Chambers 4 Stars
"A haute-designer haven, this minimalist luxury hotel attracts a rich, cultured crowd."
The Press Say
"It provides friendly, attitude-free service and a dazzling restaurant in stylish, original surroundings. Modern art adorns the public areas while the landings on each of the 14 floors are decorated by a different artist: the eighth floor is all fruit, flowers and hummingbirds; the 12th is virtually pitch-black." Hotel Overview
Review of Chambers, by Isabel Clift
Not many luxury hotels could find influence in a site that was formerly a parking lot - but Chambers, with its rooms' unfinished concrete walls and industrial-style fixtures, seems to have hit on an oddly perfect home. Not that you'd recognise it as such - the lobby is all chocolates and ochres with a two-story ceiling and a show-piece fireplace encased in glass. Match this sleek appearance with a location just off 5th Avenue (only a few blocks from Central Park) and you've the ideal hotel for sightseeing with sophistication.
A mezzanine dining level overlooks the lobby - it's unimposing from the ground, but head up the stairs and you'll find a large, lively social space that's open from breakfast until after midnight. There are upscale burgers and noodle options on offer (the tasting menu for a new restaurant to come); all are well-done, light and uncomplicated to match the surroundings.
Loft-style living is a major theme for rooms, of which even standards are spacious for Midtown. The concrete finish works best in the bathrooms, which are sandy-coloured, smooth and cocoon-like (with a few cracks snaking about the walls, for extra authenticity). Walk-in rain showers are heavenly, and other in-room goodies in rooms include iPod docks, flat screen TVs and DVD players.
If the design sounds a bit hard-edged for your fancy, never fear - there's individual artwork by up-and-comers in every room and decor feels cosy and cohesive in soft greys, whites and mauves. Even journeys to your room are special, with murals from different artists gracing each corridor -John Newsom's bird and flower prints on the 8th floor are fantastical.
The higher the floor, the lighter and more impressive the rooms: go for a Deluxe category for even more space and lovely corner windows. Most decadent (in a modern-minimalist sort of way, of course) is the Duplex suite, which comes complete with a lounge, two bathrooms and a master bedroom decked out with reclaimed furniture and stacks of funky books. It's the Duplex's long, private terrace perched high above the street that seals the deal, though: Chambers is the place to live out your NY loft-apartment fantasies.

Reviews
Review of Chambers, by Nadia Latif
Slap bang in the centre of midtown Manhattan, steps from Central Park and Fifth Avenue, lies a luxury hotel that's both chic and unique. New York favourite Chambers marries high-end luxury with a haute-design aesthetic, yet still manages to feel both friendly and accessible - no mean feat in this most demanding of cities. It is a sophisticated urban pad with a calm and collected vibe - Chambers provides an oasis in the heart of the action.
The facilities
There's a mezzanine dining level and a great cocktail menu - with such close proximity to the best of New York's shopping, it's fashionista fabulous.
The rooms
All of the 72 rooms in this luxury hotel have a minimalist, ultra-luxe style, reminiscent of the loft-like apartments this city is famed for. A neutral palette of creams and beiges, with splashes of spring green and purple, create a soothing space to wind down in. All rooms and suites boast complimentary high-speed internet, flatscreen televisions, large in-room safes and a sumptuous turndown service. The suites also provide iPod docking stations, a wall monted 42" plasma screen television and generous living spaces. Two of them make full use of the amazing city skyline, with their oversized terraces. For the ultimate in urban chic, look no further than Chambers.
Review of Chambers, by Chloe Loyd
Discreetly hidden behind elegantly carved teak lattice doors, the luxury hotel Chambers provides a welcome retreat from the hubbub that is midtown New York.
The facilities
The minimalist, designer lobby at this luxury hotel focuses around a double-sided fireplace and is sprinkled with comfortable low-rise seating. A spiral staircase leads up to a mezzanine bar and sitting area. Art by established and up-and-coming artists adorns the walls with over 500 works in total throughout the luxury hotel. Those in the public areas are vast conversation pieces and each of the 14 floors is decorated by a different artist.
The rooms
The 77 spacious rooms at this luxury hotel are loft-like, akin to an artist's studio with at least four original works in each room. Rooms are marked by thick carpets or natural wood floors with rugs, glass desks with theatrical lighting and large wide-screen flat tvs on the wall. Colours are sombre and natural, an elegant mix of browns, greys and creams. Most beds at Chambers are queen size with the softest of sheets and a choice of three types of pillow.
A selection of coffee table design books fills the bookshelves at this luxury hotel. The stone-floored bathrooms are spacious and clean-cut. Aquamarine screens separate the huge multi-headed power shower from the deep luxury tub (a special feature of the studios and suites). Mosaic tiles are the only consent to detailed decor. A yoga-inspired directory offers an array services from personal shopping to DVD library. Suites boast large terraces at his luxury hotel where outside private dining is possible.
