The Wales, New York, United States
Hotel Overview
Review of The Wales, by Ramsey Qubein
The Wales maintains a sacrosanct position along Madison Ave and within seconds of New York City's Museum Mile by Central Park. Situated within an Art Deco building, this hip accommodation has benefited from a total renovation that's brought it up-to-date with its thoroughly modern clientèle.
Convenient access to New York's public transportation is just a few blocks away. This thoughtful alternative to Midtown's mayhem is a genuine prize serving a knowledgeable clientèle of art-seeking, savvy travellers.
Public areas include the mezzanine-level sitting area complete with 24-hour coffee, tea and cappuccino station plus the rooftop terrace where guests can take in city views. The business centre serves high speed Internet requests with new iMac computers.
All guests enjoy complimentary continental breakfast in the lounge or on the rooftop terrace. Sarabeth's restaurant provides all room service to hotel guests and Paola's restaurant serves some of the finest homemade Italian dishes in New York City.
Guest rooms on all levels are beautifully appointed as the rest. Fresh tiled bathrooms feature pedestal sinks, rainfall showers, hair-dryers, large mirrors, robes, and Gilchrist & Soames toiletries. Goose-down comforters, fresh flowers, free bottled water, iPod docking stations, and Belgian cotton linens differentiate the property from its rivals. The three (most-requested) Premium Corner suites feature dark mahogany sleigh beds, signature fabrics, and elegantly framed photography.

Eating in
Joanna's Italian restaurant has been an New York institution for 15 years, so when it re-located to The Wales, it raised the hotel's already heady cache. The same signature Italian dishes are served alongside a prix fixe dining option, an extended seafood menu and a pre-theatre menu. Saturday and Sunday brunch has also proved a big hit.
The Press Say
"The original 104-year-old floors support antique furnishings and Old World decor. People-watch outside and inside, perhaps over the complimentary breakfast." Washington Post 07The Wales, New York, United States
