Hotel Overview
Review of Gramercy Park Hotel, by David Fischer
The Gramercy Park Hotel has a unique design and individuality that makes it stand out from the crowd of New York hotels. The hotel first opened in 1925, and Humphrey Bogart lived here for two years just after marrying his first wife, Helen Menken.
After a substaintial renovation in 2003, the hotel has managed to keep the bohemian feel of the original. The theme running throughout is one of opulence, in a style that’s at once tasteful, elegant and super sophisticated. The hotel showcases 20th-century masterpieces by Andy Warhol, Damian Hirst and Richard Prince, among others. The juxtaposition of tradition and modernity works well.
The hotel is well suited to fashionistas: enjoy celeb spotting and the ease of access to The Rose Bar and Jade Bar, one of the most exclusive in NYC – reservations are required after 9pm. Make sure you do make a reservation, as unlike most other hotel bars in the world, you may be refused, even as a guest! The hotel is also family-friendly due to the child care and Kids' Program, (babysitter can be organised through concierge) spacious rooms and also having access to the residents only Gramercy Park, one of only two private parks in the city. (Just ask for the key at reception)
One has to explore the Private Roof Club and Garden which offers fantastic views of the city and also acts as a solace from the hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps. The terrace is an ideal place to start the day with breakfast, served until 11.30a, and offering both a la carte and a continental-style buffet.
The restaurant Maialino serves Roman-style cooking and is open throughout the day. It is casual and informal and has the warmth and comfort of a traditional Roman trattoria. Upon entering, there is a lively bar area which serves as a local coffee bar throughout the morning and transforms itself into a wine bar with small plates throughout the afternoon and evening. The private room even has a wall-mounted plug in for your iPod so you can host dinner and play DJ with ease.

Reviews
Review of Gramercy Park, by Shelley Seale
Gramercy Park is a truly unique hotel. Its location in one of the most elegant, historic and quiet neighbourhoods of Manhattan offers privacy and a luxurious retreat for those who can afford it. Stepping into the lobby, guests are met with a haute-Boho design and over-the-top elements such as the huge dripping chandelier and eye-popping artwork by Julian Schnabel. Original hand-made furniture and inventive use of colour add to the sensuous eye candy experience - this hotel truly captures what it calls an "aesthetic anarchy."
The whole of Gramercy Park is dripping with personality and romance. Be sure and ask for an access key to the for-residents-only Gramercy Park - New York's only private park. Unique services such as a fresh, custom fragrance with a personal label, delivered within hours, add a fun touch.
The glitterati of New York can often be found here. The Rose and Jade bars offer candlelit ambience with an edgy sophistication, and mixologists who whip up decadent drinks that recall the golden art of cocktails. Reservations are required after 9:00 pm at both venues. Guests of the hotel may join other invitees via card-access elevators to the Private Roof Club and Garden, a charming terrace with gorgeous city views and a retractable roof. Unexpected design features abound, such as the ceiling light installation made of hundreds of various light bulbs hanging from their black cords to create a futuristic glow.
The Aerospace gym is a state-of-the-art, high performance fitness facility that also offers personal trainers by appointment. Aerospa is a relaxing setting for face and body treatments; in-room services are also available. A full service business centre is on-site, as well as meeting and event rooms that can accommodate from 12 to 300 people.
Guest rooms have the true feel of staying in someone's home, rather than a hotel - and a beautiful, lavish home at that. Each is imminently livable, with its own unique layout, colour scheme and appointments. Indeed, it is the little touches that make Gramercy Park so personal and charming - no two spaces are the same, and each is filled with objects d'art that are delightful to discover. All of the modern amenities are here as well, from feather beds and Italian linens to full multimedia centres complete with DVD/CD players and iPod docking stations. A creative addition is the specially designed t-shirt available for each individual room, created by leading fashion and graphic designers such as Norma Kamali and Fabien Baron. A portion of the t-shirt proceeds go to a charity of each designer's choice.
Six custom suites are also on offer, private residences with spacious living and dining rooms, full bathroom and additional powder room and personal multimedia centre. For the pinnacle, the extraordinary Penthouses are laid out so that all rooms face Gramercy Park, with mahogany ceilings, antique furnishings, original Stanford White fireplaces and curated photography collection. One and two bedrooms are available, with over 1400 square feet and their own working kitchens.
