Tuddenham Mill 4 Stars
"Redefining rustic chic in a converted 12th-century mill in lush countryside near Newmarket."
Hotel Overview
Tuddenham Mill follows the recent trend for quirky conversion projects, this time using a flour mill near historic Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds. Interiors are bang up to date, with a good mix of sympathetic refurbishment and modern design - check out the original oak beams and the water wheel behind the bar. Surrounded 12 acres of rural land, this intimate boutique hotel is an ideal country getaway.
The facilities
The Mill restaurant serves up seasonal Modern European cuisine, using local produce when possible. Regionally-sourced seafood is a speciality. A game of boules by the pond or a stroll in the grounds should work off some of that delicious food.
The rooms
Fifteen rooms are piled high with super-luxe decor. Contemporary Italian furniture creates cool lines, and 6ft wide beds have fully sprung mattresses, feather duvets and Egyptian cotton linen. Techy treats come in the form of Bose sound systems and Loewe flat screen TVs.
Bathrooms are another indulgence, with walk-in showers and Elemis toiletries. Some bathrooms have double-ended stone baths that are large enough to fit three.

The Press Say
"I can see why the mill's refurbishment cost pounds 1.2m. It oozes subtle quality, from the brick-and-weatherboard exterior and the waterwheel preserved behind glass in the bar to the Italian dining chairs and Riedel glassware. The service is exceptionally friendly." The Observer 07Tuddenham Mill, Tuddenham, United Kingdom
