The facilities

The house itself is an architectural bagatelle, begun in 1840 and remodelled in 1900. The half-timbering cries out mock-Tudor, yet the verandas and French windows give it a colonial air. Built as a hunting and fishing lodge, the hotel has a rich history; from the turn of the twentieth century until World War II, it was the only barium spa resort outside of Germany.

Guests come down from their rooms between seven and nine and enjoy a drink or two next to the roaring log fires, then choosing from either the vegetarian or daily changing menus while enjoying some freshly prepared canapés from the kitchen. The restaurant is grand, with period features, superb service and an impressive wine list. The Kingfisher Spa offers luxurious facilities and service for hotel guests. Four treatment rooms and therapists offer a wide range of health and beauty treatments. A 15m swimming pool is supplemented by an outdoor hot-tub set on the balcony overlooking the shoreline. A coffee shop is the ideal meeting place for members and non-members and for the energetic there is a fully equipped gym.
