Montagu Place is hidden away amongst Georgian townhouses in the very heart of Marylebone. A short walk away from the bustle of Oxford Street and some of London's most popular attractions, this hotel offers something more than a couples' retreat or business stopover.

The discreet and unassuming exterior makes way for contemporary comfort within. Retaining some of its Georgian identity has played a part in Montagu Place's construction. The lovingly restored period features and edited palette of white, ochre and slate are the perfect backdrop for modern opulence. With the addition of select pieces of abstract art, avant-garde sculpture and original lighting, this hotel cleverly and subtly balances modernity and tradition.

The appeal of Montagu Place lies in its simplicity. The sitting room aesthetic achieved by the cosy bar and lounge creates a relaxed environment - uncomplicated, unfussy and welcoming. At the same time, the attention to detail and level of service is reminiscent of a larger five-star establishment. The reception doubles up as a fully-stocked 24 hour bar. An excellent breakfast spread is available from 7-10am (later on weekends). If you fancy eating in your room, ring reception and be impressed by the efficiency.

Potential shortfalls for such an intimate hotel have been meticulously overcome. A partnership with a gym 300m away means that fitness fanatics are catered for. For supper, the hotel staff provide excellent recommendations for nearby places to eat. Everything has been thought of.

The 16 rooms available at the Montagu Place hotel fall into three categories - Comfy, Fancy and Swanky. These categories are not deceiving and will appeal in particular to a more modern clientele. For all its traditional features, the overarching atmosphere of the hotel is contemporary and crisp.

All mod cons have been installed in the rooms - air con, flat screen TV, high-speed internet, direct dial telephone and a 24 hour laundry turnaround. A discerning audience is appealed to here. Luxury Molton Brown products are available in the elegant bathroom. Carbon neutral glass bottles of water are provided either side of the velvet clad bed. Bodum coffee and specialist tea grace the complimentary tray. All-in-all nothing is missed.
