Hyatt Regency London - The Churchill 5 Stars

"A polished business hotel in central London, within walking distance of Hyde Park and Oxford Street shopping."

Hotel Overview

Review of Hyatt Regency London - The Churchill, by Chloe Govan

The hotel is undergoing a soft refurbishment of all guestrooms and the Regency and Regency Executive suites on the 7th, 8th and 9th floors from 2 February to mid-May 2011. The hotel will remain fully operational during this time.

Located almost in the centre of the central line, few hotels come closer to the heat of the action than Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill. The area might be in an urban metropolis, but it's also surprisingly suburban with leafy trees, sumptuous gardens and stylish period buildings.

What's more, it's tantalisingly close to Hyde Park. The hotel is also moments from the fashionable allure of Bond Street, and nearby Oxford Street is so busy that traffic has long since been banned – making it a pedestrian paradise for walking the credit card.

Special guests have included Nelson Mandela, Michael Jackson and even Barack Obama during the Presidential election campaign. Marble Arch is home to a thriving Arab population and the hotel caters to the community's guests by offering an exemplary Middle Eastern breakfast on room service. Hummus, halal beef sausage and Arabic bread are just a small selection, which can be ordered whilst enjoying one of the Arabic language newspapers.

All breakfasts are 24 hours, useful for conquering jet-lag or time zone confusion and when the food arrives, it doesn't disappoint – rather, it is unwaveringly brilliant. Meanwhile healthy breakfasts have been designed for the image-conscious with an emphasis on light snacks such as yoghurt, strawberries and fresh fruit juices. On the other hand, if an expanding waist-line and a desire to rock that Chanel dress are not on the priority list, tasting the Chocolate Fondant with Rum Marinated Berries certainly should be.

Calories can easily be burned off with a game of tennis on a flood-lit court overlooking the picturesque gardens, or a visit to the resident gym. The hotel also boasts a florist, chaauffer driving service and car hire, meeting and event rooms, safe deposit boxes, shoe shine and theatre desk.

An intimate setting with just two restaurants and a bar places emphasis on quality time in the rooms. Indeed, the four-bedroom Presidential Suite is one you'll be reluctant to leave. It boasts a spacious balcony perched on the London roof-tops and even its own lobby area. All the suites include a DVD player and iHome docking station. That's not to say that standard rooms spare a single detail – all are thoroughly equipped with two telephone lines with speaker phones and voicemail, remote control satellite TV with individual keyboards, a workspace with high-speed internet access, iron and ironing board, personal safes, tea & coffee making facilities, radio and a host of attentive, multi-lingual staff for whom the word "sullen" simply doesn't feature in the dictionary.

As Beyonce once sang, this hotel has a huge ego, but "she can back it up."
