Hotel Overview
Boutique hotel and gastropub The Wheatsheaf in Combe Hay is one of Somerset's best kept secrets. This country pub retreat is small but perfectly formed, in a village only four miles from the gorgeous Roman city of Bath. Mix day trips to the city or countryside with evenings spent by the Wheatsheaf's log fire, sampling their locally renowned food.
The facilities
Three acres of garden, with a terrace for summer dining on the delicious French-British fusion food from the restaurant. Locally-sourced produce includes diver-caught scallops from Lulworth Cove, beef reared on the Mendips, local game provided by owner Ian Barton and the freshest vegetables from the kitchen garden. Wash it all down with real ale and local cider at the boutique hotel's bar.
There's no room service, but the indulgence continues with a choice of in-room massages and beauty treatments.
The rooms
The Wheatsheaf's guestrooms are decorated in a contemporary-rustic style with teak furniture and king sized beds. The en-suite bathrooms have rainwater showers and White Company toiletries in the bathroom. Goodies include flat screen TVs, Egyptian cotton sheets and a tuckbox on arrival that comes with fresh ground coffee, speciality teas, hot chocolate and other little treats. A great start to a foodie's dream break.
