Charles Dickens, who stayed in the hotel while giving readings of his books in the Athenaeum, immortalized Angel Hotel in "The Pickwick Papers".

Angel Hotel has two restaurants: The newly refurbished Eaterie, overlooking the town square, and The Vault, located in the cellar of the hotel and dating back to the 12th century. Both serve menus with 80% locally sourced ingredients.
