A sleek city-centre hotel, Al Bustan Rotana is fantastically close to Dubai's best and biggest shopping precincts and skyscrapers, as well as the international airport. It's great for business folk; but modern luxury decor and deferential service will please anyone after a proper UAE welcome.

Everything from traditional Arabic to Steakhouse menus are served across eight restaurants. For a snack, head to Aquarius bar after a dip in the large outdoor pool. With all that choice, it's easy to over-do it: Bodylines health centre is great for serious gym bunnies, with a fitness room, weight training and specialised classes all on offer; plus there's squash, tennis and nearby golf courses for keeping active outdoors. Those after a bit more sneaky indulgence can head to Al Bustan's massage rooms and outdoor Jacuzzi.
