Celal Sultan Hotel has built up a loyal following, thanks in part to its clean-lined, unfussy decor, warm and friendly atmosphere and great rooftop restaurant. What is the major selling point here, though, is definitely its location. Sitting pretty right on Istanbul's Bosphorus, the hotel is within walking distance to all the major sights, including the Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazaar and the Blue Mosque.

The facilities

There's minimal facilities here, and really, in such a bustling city there's little need for them. The rooftop restaurant is very good, serving home-cooked Turkish cuisine with the freshest market produce. There's also a cosy bar/lounge area that's a good spot for unwinding come the evening. A hot breakfast buffet is served each morning.

The rooms

Each of the Celal Sultan's 55 bedrooms is clean and comfortable, decorated in a soothing palette of cream, chocolate and pastels. All come with flat screen televisions, air conditioning, separate showers and wifi, and of course those amazing city-sweeping views.
