't Hotel 3 Stars

"A charming 17th-century building houses this bed and breakfast, which overlooks the beautiful Leliegracht canal."

Hotel Overview

Review of 't Hotel, by Joanna Monkhouse

't hotel is located on one of the most beautiful canals in Amsterdam, the tree-lined Leliegracht, a narrower, quieter canal lined by quirky boutiques and cafes. Renovated from a traditional 17th-century building a few years ago, 't hotel (pronounced 'ut' hotel) is a budget boutique hotel with only eight rooms.

The facilities

The ground floor of 't hotel houses the owner's antique shop which doubles as reception. 't hotel is right in the centre of Amsterdam, within easy walking distance from Dam Square, the Anne Frank House and the Jordaan. Guests are given a key to the door on arrival so they can come and go as they please, taking advantage of all that Amsterdam has to offer.

The rooms

The eight rooms, three with views of the canal, the rest overlooking the gardens or rooftops at the back, are simple with white bedlinen and white tiled bath or showe

If you didn't know the address, you'd be forgiven for walking past 't Hotel. The ground floor is a former antique storefront, functioning now primarily as the reception and lobby, but still maintaining the look of an antique shop. While checking-in, the curiosities in the periphery begin to sketch a portrait of a kindly lodging. You can imagine yourself in a boarding house of times past, run by a sociable, slightly eccentric matron.

The facilities

Breakfast has a diverse array of fruit, cereal, spreads and bread. In the evening, Christophe - 't Hotel's Michelin-starred, French cuisine serving restaurant - is just a few steps away

The rooms

Rooms at 't Hotel are situated in the typical Dutch fashion of the boven woning (first-floor housing), as the stairway next door leads to the rooms above the shop/reception. The rooms are furnished with a nod to the early modernist sensibilities of Art Deco and the Bauhaus with the adjustable glass/steel coffee tables and muted tones accented by elegant lines.

All rooms are excellently lit with daylight streaming in through the canal house windows. As night falls, high-tech lighting lets you create a variety of different moods for your room. In historical canal house fashion, all rooms are unique in shape, and the beds are absolutely divine. Room number eight is a perfect option for families or friends of up to five; other room extras include WiFi, coffee and tea-making facilities, radio alarm clocks and sitting areas.
