It’s a Bangkok bolthole that’s both exclusive and inclusive. The Anantara Baan Rajprasong Serviced Suites, nicely tucked down a side street in a very discreet, mid-city neighbourhood, include some rare pleasures. For one, your balcony overlooks no less than a private forest and lake. You may be less than 200 metres from the Skytrain station on Rajdamri Road, but by night you’ll hear the croaking of frogs.

Meanwhile, your suite -- one or two bedroom, superior or deluxe configuration -- offers complimentary wireless internet, two widescreen TVs, iPod dock, king-size bed, huge bath, a roomy kitchen, and even an ironing board. The suites, which are among the largest serviced apartments in Bangkok, have plenty of room and good storage space. All of these amenities make this a very suitable home for both short and long-term stays.

Come breakfast time, the ground-floor Terrazz Café serves one of the best morning meals in town, dishing up East-West options that range from exceptional omelets to traditional khao tom (rice porridge), plus fresh fruit and a wicked bakery selection. Extract yourself before it all segues into brunch, and then into a lavish afternoon tea. By night, the 12th-floor Tetto Lounge and its outdoor deck are perfect for cocktails, romance, or just contemplating the Bangkok skyline.

The only drawback to this very good retreat is that, unlike almost everywhere else in Bangkok, there is no convenience store nearby; stock up on snacks and small items before heading back to the hotel.

Once outside the hotel, the city is at your doorstep. It’s just a short stroll to Lumpini Park or to the restaurants of Lang Suan. The business and shopping districts of Silom and Sathorn are just one stop away via the Skytrain.
