Al Johari is a boutique hotel in Stone Town, Zanzibar Island. The property is made up of two traditional buildings, with fantastic Swahili, Omani, Persian and Indian-influenced decor inside. Staff are friendly too, in keeping with the cosy vibe. Stone Town itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site - if you decide to leave the four walls of Al Johari, the port and street food market are only five minutes away.

The facilities

Facilities here are plentiful, a great bonus for a boutique hotel. Head to Fusion restaurant for a modern take on traditional and continental dishes, then move to the ocean-facing Fusion Lounge for after-dinner drinks. Shisha, Havana cigars and tapas are served up along with the cocktails. If you seriously need to unwind, the spa does a selection of Kama Ayurveda massages, face and body treatments.

The rooms

Each of Al Johhari's 15 individually decorated rooms have luxurious east African-influenced styling. They come complete with free Wi-Fi, marble floors, Persian rugs and LCD TVs. All bathrooms have massage showers, but those with Deluxe Suites get Jacuzzis, too.
